The Spyderco Tenacious is a sexy knife. It is kind of a staple when it comes to the Spyderco lineup. It’s low price and quality craftsmanship makes it a great EDC knife. I carry one myself. Earlier this year we covered how to make any Spyderco knife auto open with a simple hack that takes about 5 minutes. Today I want to show you some custom Spyderco Tenacious scales that you can slap on your knife to give it a whole new feel. It’s an inexpensive way to give your factory-made knife a handmade look.
These are the scales that really got me going down this rabbit hole of looking for custom scales for my Tenacious. These OD green/brown canvas scales from FireSideCo on Etsy give the knife a great rugged look that really matches the build of the knife. For someone looking for something a little more “Outdoorsy”, these scales seem to fit the bill and makes this knife look like a tool your father would own. I really love the texture on these and the canvas adds a nice grip element that can help improve the overall function of the knife. You can even buy the complete stonewashed knife with scales from FireSideCo complete with beefed-up hardware!
These super grippy Spyderco Tenacious scales are a triple-whammy of awesome. First of all, they just look bad-ass. That gets them points right there. But once you get beyond the initial look of them, there is a ton of function behind them as well. First of all the Micarta material. The one thing I fuss over most with any of my EDC knives is the grip. If you can’t hold it, you can’t use it. These Micarta handles provide a ton of grip and won’t slip out of your hands.
The second element I love about these handles is the glow in the dark aspect. Have you ever tried finding a black knife you dropped on the ground while working at night? It’s a pain. Now if it was glowing it would be a whole lot easier to find. I know people will say that because the knife is in your pocket it won’t “charge” the glowing portion as they need to be exposed to light to glow. In reality, when you are working at night, you usually are working under some sort of light. This charges the knife. Now when you drop it out of the view of your work light, you can easily find it and retrieve it without having to move lights around.
Plus, again, It just looks bad-ass.
Sometimes you just need a little color in your life. Tired of black and steel? Want something brighter? These scales from ID Knives fit the bill. Made from the same material as the factory scales on your knife, these multicolor Spyderco tenacious scales really give the knife some character. They come in a ton of colors and if you are the type of person that likes to color coordinate your EDC, these are made for you. They come in about 5 different colors but all are in limited quantity.
